History of Dallas, Texas

Before Dallas was a bustling city in North Texas, it had its humble beginnings. In 1841, John Neely Brown, a Tennesse native and an ambitious man, founded the City of Dallas. Please visit the Handbook of Texas Online for more information about the history of Dallas.

Also, the Dallas Historical Society is a non-profit organization that was established in 1922 to preserve the history and culture of Dallas.  DHS continues educate the public about the history of Dallas and present programs and exhibits on the history and culture of Dallas and Texas.  They are also responsible for maintaining and managing the Hall of State in the Fair Park of Dallas, TX.
