Digital Humanities is an ever-changing academic field. As a socio-academic organism, Digital Humanities continues to thrive throughout the years by transforming and developing as a functioning field. Digital Humanities is an integrated conjunction of traditional and new technologies that connect with disciplines of and related to humanities. Since the beginning, the development of innovative methods for research, scholarship, teaching, publishing, and communications has played a big role in the transformation of Digital Humanities.
To further this development, digital tools, traditional and new, have provided the means of connecting technology to humanities. Digital tools will continue to be created and developed with advancing technology and changes in humanity. The current digital tools are used for mapping, content analysis, data mining, interactive participation, visualization, etc. Also, the material for Digital Humanities goes beyond the textual resources. The types of artifacts continue to expand, and they are used alongside digital tools to create and build new digital projects that are related to humanities.
Digital Humanities represents the dynamics of the relationship between technology and humanities. By providing a collaborative and interactive digital community, Digital Humanities is like no other academic field. Digital Humanities reaches out to a growing audience in order to engage, to inform, to analyze, and to question humanity’s past, present, and future. As an emerging field, Digital Humanities begins to question and analyze the challenges of advancing technology and how it impacts the changing humanity.
I defined Digital Humanities this way to acknowledge that it bridges the traditional and new practices of Digital Humanities to invite a wider audience. Digital Humanities is a network of working knowledge and innovative methods to address traditional practices and current challenges. As Digital Humanities continues to develop, the definition continues to build on the foundation of the original meaning. The definition of Digital Humanities is constantly metamorphisizing as it adapts to the advancement of technology and the development of humanity.
